Some vendors offer mail in programming. If you are not in a hurry, It might be a great option. You might have to mail unit back and forth a couple of times to get module done correct. Very rare does module work first time.
Im mobile here in the reno area and program module on the spot. No need to risk mailing your unit out.

On some vehicles a bare minimum programming can be done just to get vehicle running. Usually involves syncing module replacement with the immo system. Most likely VIN will not match car but car will run fine on some cases. This is the case if the module came from a vehicle with the exact same engine and features.
How do I program the module replacement? On most vehicles I connect to the dealer server and download the exact files needed to overwrite module with proper files. This requires having dealer accounts which I have for most manufacturers. Some guys going around the Reno area pretending to program computers. They sit in your car and pretend to do something. They then claim module you installed is bad. They expect a fee for their time. Don't be a victim!!
How to prevent this scam? If they claim they got an error...have them show pictures or a log of the error. I always show screenshots of the software used and whether programming was successful or an error occurred. I do at least two modules a weeks were others failed. |
